About the Meyda Online Project

The Meyda Online site is a part of my personal endeavor to help people understand assorted issues affecting people in the increasingly networked world. Over the two decades of dealing with compuiter and other technologies, I have gotten interested in the impact of various uses of technology upon people.

This independent project is not a business venture and has no affiliation with any organization or other entity. It receives and seeks no outside funding. It is maintained solely with my personal funds.

What Does "Meyda" Mean?

"Meyda" is a Hebrew word meaning "information".

History

Meyda Online Project started with a computer bulletin board system (BBS) in central New Jersey USA in the early 1990's. In the mid-1990s, a Web companion for the Meyda BBS was set up at www.meydabbs.com. At the end of the 1990's, it was taken offline because the Internet was being used by far more people than were the BBSes. The meydabbs.com still remains as an e-mail contact domain.

Because fewer people are familiar with BBSes these days, the domain name for the Web site was changed to meydaonline.com.

Philosophy

My philosophy is pro-individual liberty with an understanding of various societal concerns. I enjoy working and playing with technology but am well aware of the power of technology for both good, evil, and probematic purposes.

The reason for the coverage of security, privacy, and liberty is to examine important values that often collide and don't get a decent examination.

My political viewpoints don't fit neat pigeonholes. (Pigeonholes are better suited for birds anyway). So there are comments that can seem very "conservative" and others that seem quite "progressive" or "radical" in different places on this site. Sometimes I refer to myself as "Marxist"... as in Groucho Marx the humourist, not the other Marx. <g>
